Marks Tey
Changes to its village life.
In the 1960’s the new school was built on a new housing estate, well away from the summer ques of traffic, and with that saw more house built on neighbouring fields.
The A12 trunk road was re-routed and made into a dual carriageway and this effectively cut Marks Tey into two parts the old and the new.
Village life, still exists in Marks Tey but it is not so close knit as other village, which are not divided into two.
The shops, post office and newsagent still serve both part, but there is little peace in the village because of the A12 and A120 have so much traffic on them.
For most people living in the estates it is a car ride to take them to the local shops, as the A120 is very dangerous, and once in the car many people then go to the local supermarket to shop, which will give them more variety.
Many of the inhabitants of Marks Tey choose to live in the village because of its close proximity of the railway station and house prices are a lot cheaper than others nearer to London.
