Among the guests at a party to celebrate the diamond wedding of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Thompson, of Marks Tey, on Saturday, was 86-year-old Mr. Arthur Dorman, who was their best man when they were married at Birch Church on February 6, 1904.
During the party, which was held at Marks Tey Labour Hall Mr. and Mrs. Thompson's granddaughter, Miss Wedny Alen, announced her engagment.
Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, both of whom are 82, are remarkably active for their age. Mr. Thompson worked for Dobbie and Co. Ltd., seed growers, for more than 50 years, and was later employed by By-Pass nurseries Ltd. He was in the Army during the first world war and served in the home guard during the secind world war.
They received the equivalent of 60 crowns as a diamond wedding present from their family. They are to move into a bungalow next week.
