Description

Published description of the spire of St Andrew's Church in Hewett "English Church Carpentry" p77.

Location
Transcript

The last example, that at Marks Tey dated from local records to 1648, is in contrast a purpose-built belfry structure recalling the saltire-braced framing of the oldest examples. The framing of its spire, shown separately, is very good but is not re-thought, being closely similar to some ancient examples. The four-centred sound vent heads look Elizabethan rather than mid-17 century.
