Nave roof of seven cants, chancel roof also of seven cants, and with an interesting wall plate, possible of the 14th century. It can be seen at the eaves that the sole pieces tenon into the rafters' feet. The west tower suffered damage during the siege of Colchester in 1648 (L.G.B.) and had its upper part replaced with a timber tower of slightly later date. This is shown in Fig.64, and further described on p. 72, and it vertically clad with boards. The south porch is a very interesting one, of rather late date, which is illustrated in Fig. 52, and further discussed on p. 61.
